Nicolas Lancret (1690-1743) was a French painter whose style was Rococo. He often used pastel colors, and was known for his painterly style and charming subject matter. Art Historians agree that Lancret produced his best work in his later years with an increasing ability to create a sense of harmony between art and nature. This piece features a mandolin playing gentleman entertaining two young ladies during a music lesson.This painting is a rare 1920s engraving accented with an ivory border, is glass covered and features carved giltwood framing. There are a few small areas with missing pieces, as pictured, but hard to discern and does not compromise the beauty and integrity of this antique piece. Measures 14 wide, 18.25 long and 1 deep.
