This jacket is based on an unnamed American coverall from around 1910, unearthed from a coal mine.
Fascinated by a coverall jacket that came into his possession after more than 100 years, Taiga Takahashi created the T.T. coverall jacket.
The 1920s in America marked the beginning of an era of mass production and mass consumption.
From the tradition of craftsmen carefully making each item by hand, manufacturing systems evolved to enable mass production even without skilled craftsmanship.
The workwear worn by the laborers supporting the economy tells the story of that era, with its straight stitching and simplified patterns based on flat designs.
The durability of the fabric and the shape of the pockets are all designed to withstand heavy labor.
There are almost no elements of what is considered design today; this jacket is more like a tool than clothing.
While inheriting the specifications of the time, the material's texture was considered, and the shoulder slope was reconstructed to improve the gathering under the arms.
The material uses original twill fabric made on an old-style power loom, and a nuanced finish is applied to create subtle color changes.
Like the glazing technique of Raku ware tea bowls, three dyes are used and dyed with a time lag, creating an iridescent sheen on the fabric surface and a unique, uneven color that differs from uneven dyeing.
